The strength ABC program is an evidence based rehabilitative exercise program for breast cancer survivors. The Strength After Breast Cancer program is based on the Physcial Activity and Lymphedema Trial study which assessed the safety and efficacy slowly progressive weightlifting for breast cancer survivors with or at risk for lymphedema. This program has been shown to decrease lymphedema exacerbations by 50%, decrease onset of lymphedema by 70%. It has shown to improve body composition, body image and upper body symptoms; and prevent the decline in physical function that is observed to occur in breast cancer survivors. The program can be done one-on-one or in a group setting. Each participant must be finished with cancer treatments and first be evaluated by our Certified Lymphedema Therapist prior to starting the program. The evaluation will include a compression garment to wear during exercises for those at risk for Lymphedema who do not already have one.
